The H1B visa is the primary work visa in the United States. It enables highly skilled international workers and students to legally live and work in the country. It is available to people both outside the United States and already living in the country legally, but individuals may not apply for the visa themselves.
Only an H1B sponsor, typically an employer, may apply for the H1B visa. The first step in the process is to submit a labor certification request.
The H1B employment visa is used for a number of professions including:
